A quite underrated factor by Singaporeans, I feel, is how the Singaporean government does not do batshit crazy things. Policymakers decide things - fewer cars on the road, say - and bureaucrats decide the most efficient way to implement things. The COE auction system, for instance, is a perfectly rational solution to allocating permits for cars.

In short, level-headed, rational, and efficiency-driven.

Certainly beats most other governments in the region where decision-making is driven by political animal instincts, resulting in schizophrenic policymaking, e.g. deciding overnight to legalise marijuana without implementing regulatory controls on the product, and then deciding later to perhaps rescind the legalisation of marijuana, either fully or partially, but not specifying by how much or when, leading to much confusion.

(Not naming the country but.. I know you know :))
