Great article. I wish there had been more thought put in design into some of the apps forced upon us due to COVID-19.

Elderly folk here in Malaysia are lamenting how the transition to cashless payments is leaving them dazed and confused because they haven't even gotten used to the smartphone interface.

Now, they're asked to learn how to scan QR codes, link up their bank accounts/credit cards with e-wallets, figure out which e-wallet the merchant accepts, and so on. Some municipalities have jumped straight to e-wallet payments for parking, no longer accepting physical tickets, which is making it even harder for the elderly to move around when their mobility has been restrained by age and the pandemic.

A lot of this burden is being pushed on to the shoulders of their adult children who are more digitally-savvy but who are also dealing with their own struggles with transition.

So, yes, good human-centered design would probably have saved a lot of heartaches...
