I did this when I started out years ago but I ultimately found it to be a waste of time. Reading the news is like eating junk food. It makes you think you're doing something productive but you aren't. Trying to get an "edge" by investing on the news you read doesn't work, mainly because if it's out in the news, it's probably already priced in.

My personal opinion is it's more valuable to spend time to read how professional investors are thinking and to try and decode their moves. In doing so, I recommend reading hedge fund letters because these are professional investors communicating with their partners (who give them money to invest) on their moves and why they did it. Much more direct way of understanding and trying to challenge their insights.

I'm not such a huge fan of Seeking Alpha either mainly because anyone can write on Seeking Alpha and you seldom know whether the author has a hidden agenda when posting.
