Hi Fabrizio, I've heard a lot about how some parts of Italy are like Southeast Asia, with questionable driving skills and so on, but I've always assumed them to be stereotypes which could (or could not) be true.

In any case, the criticisms I've heard about "southern Italian" behaviour tend to come from people in the north, or Switzerland, or Germany, whose standards tend to be high enough that "everywhere is uncivilised", so to speak.

I'm not sure. Only way to find out is to go there!
