I hope so as well, Xu Xu! I suppose a lot of the problems at my former employer stemmed from the fact they were one of those “strange” entities that could never grow large enough to be a stand-alone. So, they were only ever bolt-on acquisitions for significantly larger players who never really knew what to do with it.

When I joined, it was a division in a hardware manufacturer in which the (new) CEO decided his strategy was to diversify into software to build a “total” telecommunications solution. Well, the hardware/software side never really sat well together, and the whole strategy was a bust, so the parent itself got acquired by an even larger parent. My company then got passed on to another owner to be integrated into their solution package. Well, that company got acquired by an even bigger one to be integrated into their package.

So, in the decade since I left, it’s been a constant churn of restructuring and reorganising. I think things have settled down now, though. :)
