I think the root cause of the problem is their fundamental incompatibility for each other. That relationship is clearly held together by sheer force of convention — for traditional Malaysian families of their generation, divorce is unthinkable. Evidently, at some point, my aunt decided to rebel against the lifestyle they had led for more than 40 years and I don’t blame her 100% for it. I’m actually somewhat impressed she managed to hold it together this long.
