I've been on Medium for nearly two years. Until today, I can't figure out what ILLUMINATION is for.

They claim it's for new writers to be noticed - well, that's what the distribution system is for.

They don't do extensive edits to improve the articles that people submit to them. As far as I know, they just push them out on the feed.

In fact, they push out so many articles that any single writer will be drowned out in the flood of articles that come out.

So, actually, I just can't see what tangible value they provide. I'm not disputing their right to exist, I just don't know why they still do.

I gathered from a comment that new writers come on the platform with the mistaken belief they have to publish on a publication - any publication - and sign up with ILLUMINATION by default, graduating on to other publications once they find their footing. Seems to make sense to me.
