Oh no, I've seen far worse.

My partner asked for a discount because she wanted a place for a long-stay during the Covid lockdown.

The owner took huge offense at having the audacity to ask for a discount, harassed her, doxxed her by sending her details to an Airbnb owners' Facebook group and telling all the other hosts never to rent to this person. The harassment only stopped because some of the other people in the group were her former schoolmates and told him to knock it off.

I'd say go ahead and ask, but also make sure your personal details are well-protected before you do. Three years of Covid's made some people unhinged and dangerous.

Airbnb protects people by hiding their last names but that's only of limited use. It doesn't help if your first name is unique - and, for most Malaysians, our first names are unique.
